Question Pet Insurance

Hi

Can anyone tell me if the cost of pet insurance is more expensive in NZ ?

I have 3 ragdolls which I pay £53 a month for insurance just wondering if it is around the same

Thanks in advance

Just paid out $400 for Hector for 3 days hospitalisation and blood tests. He's almost 5 now so we are well in pocket had we paid the $25 or thereabouts per month over the last 5 years (the vets told me this is the going rate for pet ins). Mind you there will be an excess to factor in aswell. Also it goes up quite a bit as they get older and exisiting problems are not covered..you know they will try to use anything against paying out.

We have 3 dogs and TBH you will save money by paying for any bits as they come up, just put the 50 bux a month away somewhere you will be surprised how quick it mounts up

Libby & Oscar have both had Corona Virus and have cost around £1500 I've had to pay the £50 excess twice so for me the insurance has more than paid for itself. Ellie has been ok just a bit on the big side at 7kg

We are with Pet Plan and they have never questioned anything and always paid out quickly. I think I would feel safer having them insured as with my luck I would end up with huge bills

I looked into this a year or so ago and the policies I found at the time were about $30 a month plus extra for dental and extra for hereditary disease cover.
They usually paid a percentage of each cost rather than an excess and were limited to something poxy like $1500 a year in claims.
From that they seemed to be a waste of money. We have three cats and a dog so premiums would be about $140 a month.
In the last 2 years the cats have cost us about $300 total I think - one had an infection after being clawed by another cat.
The dog on the other hand had a series of fits last year and ended up being on a drip at the vets for a few days costing us over $1000 plus maybe $300 in follow up tests and stuff.
But there's a chance that wouldn't have been covered as if it's epilepsy it could be hereditary etc etc.
So from what I've seen, NZ pet insurance isn't worth it!

I pay $12 a month for my cat through Pet insure.
It pays 80% I think...don't remember the maximums
OUr cat used to cost a fortune after fighting but since insuring him he hasn't had a scrap in 3 years...typical
