Can anyone recommend good pet insurance for a dog? I've been looking at Ellenco, but would appreciate info from people that know about these things!

sorry, I can't answer your question but we're considering getting a dog this year - round about how much is insurance likely to cost? Rob Clubley has just got a dog - he may know a bit more about pet insurance.

We got a dog last August, and my vet ( a well intentioned local type) told me to seriously not bother with vet insurance - if I lived in the UK I would never have owned a pet without it, but it's a tad different over here - hell, my vet trims my dogs nails for free!!

We got prices from Pet-n-Sur today after getting our pup last week.

$35 a month for up to $5k a year cover, plius $4.50 a month for dental and an extra $6.50 a month for hereditary diseases!

Sounds like daylight robbery to me!

Hi
We have got a dog since being in NZ and we have got pet insurance with Ellenco.I would recommend having it as it only costs $17.00 a month.We needed to use it when our dog was a puppy as he became ill an the excess was about $70.00 dollars for the vet visit and his medication.I think it would have cost alot more without insurance.
Vet bills are always hefty no matter where you live in the world and for a few dollars a month it is worth the peace of mind.
