Default Pasta Flour

I fancy making my own pasta, after a impulse purchase of a pasta machine. All the recipes call for "00" flour. But looking at the selection at the supermarket, there is flour for cakes, bread, pizza, muffins etc but nothing for pasta.

Anyone know which flour I could use? Thanks.

Cor ! I did that impulse thing. Well, actually Mr BEVS did.

I managed to get me hands on some Farina 100% wheat flour. It says 'soft type "45". I haven't used it yet but when I squish the packet it looks incredibly fine.

The 00 just refers to the fineness of the milling and I think is about as fine as you can go, with texture of talcum powder. It's just very finely milled white flour that can be used for bread / pizzas and pasta. Countdown sometimes have it among the bread mixes, the brand name is Laucke.

As an amateur I doubt you'll be none the wiser for using any old plain white flour unless you're serving it up to a Masterchef.
