Default Parents. How can we get to NZ quicker

I am new to this forum and I would be grateful for any advise or suggestions.
Our only son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren are moving permanently to NZ within the next few months. I am aware of the parent sponsor scheme but wonder if there is any other way of emigrating before the 3 years period. We are retired and have sufficient finance to purchase property and live comfortably without creating any burden on the NZ taxpayers. We are healthy, apart from my knee replacements and found NZ a wonderful place when we all made the preliminary visit last October/November. Many thanks.

Kia Ora & Welcome on here Brandlesholme!

Some of the guys will be along shortly... But I seem to remember you have to wait the 3 years thingy!

However, if you guys have the funds n stuff... You could come on a visitors?? You'll just have to bear the restrictions of it...

All the best & keep posting!

My in-laws have been researching this. They have just applied for their residency through the investment category. The only thing I know about that though, is that they've just raised the age limit to 65, as this time last year they were not eligible.

If they are going to go in on the Parent Visa - how much money they have is not asked for by Immigration New Zealand. They are interested in the person who is sponsoring them and how much they earn per year - and whether they can provide a roof over their parent's heads for a number of years (if needed). They want to see proof of earnings of the Sponsor and their is a minimim amount that the sponsor has to earn.

We are self sufficient but these questions are still asked. They never once asked us how we are going to support ourselves.

welcome.... for the permanent move you have to wait the 3 years for the sponsorship... and don't submit a day early or it will be returned (based on some others experience).... some people have been allowed to emigrate permanently earlier than the 3 year period if their personal circumstances have been such that a waiver has been allowed ... you can look at the results of appeal hearings - more info - (http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ht=parent+visa)

in the meantime you can of course use the usual 6 month standard visitor visa (assuming you're coming from UK or elsewhere with same agreement) or you can apply for the 'parent/grandparent visa' which allows you to spend longer periods of time in NZ in the 3 year period, but not being permanently resident.... (http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...andparent+visa) as far as i'm aware you're still able to purchase property in NZ without being permanently resident - am sure someone will correct me if not!

if you check out the NZIS website (www.immigration.govt.nz) and search for parent/grandparent visa you'll find a bit of info...

HTH... will try and find you some links now

My inlaws are here on a 3 year work visa. They arrrived 6 months after we did and have bought a house etc. The plan is for us to sponsor them when our 3 years is up (next April) and they will probably have to go for another work visa yto fill the gap.

They are both in their 60s by the way, so well past the 55 cut off age for residency and lucky for them, my SIL and her family have also shifted in the last 12 months, so they should have a good chance

My FIL is in construction but has specialist knowledge, so is employed at quite a high level within the company.Don't think there would be many in NZ with his knowledge and experience.
