After a few hours of excitement the boredom will come on and the kids will sleep.
If not we have something in common

They should be up Auckland way now.
I had a call from Dave on Monday afternoon from Dave on the plane just before they flew out. Couldn't hear a lot besides their eldest daughter Auriel making plenty of noise!!!
Look forward to some updates on how the trip is going and the meet ups with you guys in NZ

Hi All from NZ!!!!!!
Hey just a quick update while I actually have WIFI internet access!!! Will see about doing a Blog or whatever later on!
Firstly, thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes!
Ok, flight was REALLY long, OMG just a 2 hr lay over in LA makes it seem like an eternity to arrive!!! Kids were actually ok - kept 3 yr old on movies for Heathrow to LA leg then both of them were on the old sedatives for the night flite bit LA-AKL. 3 yr old did wake up with 2 or so hrs to go to AKL but worked pretty well. Immigration at AKL was easy peasy and the Officer was very welcoming to us new migrants LOL! So we now have unlimited stay PR PERMITS and our RRV's are valid for 2 yrs from the date we entered which is great!
OK I'll hit the quickie points and give detail later(its a long story - trust me!!!):
Favourite place seen so far: Titirangi/Waitakere Range area west of AKL - lush sub tropical forest, quiet beach communities(Langholm) and wild west coast beaches(Piha). Pretty nice! Clare is smitten!!! I like it too!!!
Orewa & Warkworth north of AKL were pretty nice too.
Have had a whirlwind initial visit to Bay of Islands - but should be back there later. Coromandel was beautiful but remote, ok VERY remote! Mount manganui & papamoa were nice beach communities. Rotorua was very interesting - did the thermal tourist bit! Lake Taupo was VERY gorgeous but in the middle of nowhere LOL!!! Napier - whats the fuss about?? The art deco isn't that exciting!!
Arrived Kapiti Coast tonite(Paraparaumu) so should be in touch with a few people over next couple of days! Gonna check out Wellington!!!
Big impressions so far: NZ is just a continuous journey through rolling green hills/mountains - its very pretty but gets monotonous when you're driving alot! The other thing is there are huge tracts of land where the pine is harvested that looks like the land has just been raped!! NOT very attractive!!! Bit of a shock but in the end should have expected it as wood is such a huge export for NZ!!! Duh!! Beaches are near deserted everywhere!!! The little towns you drive through look like mid western towns in the USA in a lot of respects - wooden and old!!!
OK thats it for now more soon!!! Will look into a Blog too when get a chance!
look out Wellington - here we come!
