Hi

You may not wish to go to Aukland but by phoning the number and asking how much this job is likely to pay you will get an answer to your question. Phoning people in New Zealand and asking for their help or advice has been very helpful to us. We have found the Kiwis very friendly and helpful and will be only too pleased to help you (even if you aren't applying for that job).

Kind regards

Ali

Hi there, I was a painter in NZ just a short while back.. The wages havent moved on much since about 1989 (I was there between 98 and 04 and the wages were $11-$12 an hour).... You can expect to earn about $12 to $14 an hour with a company...
I was lucky as i worked for an English bloke who paid me well (well for NZ) ans we got on well. In all my time there I never met a good NZ painter, no joking! As an English duo with the bosses son trained by us we outpainted and outclassed the kiwis hands down, they thought we were bumping the job at 1st!
I must admit both my wife and I worked less per week for an ok lifestyle, We moved back to Europe to educate the kids (Denmark) and we work even less here for the same lifestyle. Our mortgage is far cheaper, the wages are far higher, the houses are cheaper, the food cost is $ for Kr the same but obviously if you took it from an hours work in NZ to hours work in DK then food prices work out far cheaper in DK.
We had a great time there, glad we did it but glad were back in Europe.
Just reading this back it makes NZ sound glum, it isnt! but im just trying to put acrss the truth that it all isnt a rose garden.
I had a freind who went there 2 years ago, he and is family love it! But they went with 300,000 quid! and two good well paid jobs in the medical and carpet laying line..They have a huge house with pool etc, well you would with a million dollars eh!
If you need a work contact, and you are an ok painter, then my ol mate might give you a go..He wants pommie painters! but not allowed to advertise for them..Problem is that he is in Christchurch (loads of work there) nice place too..Welly is too windy mate.
Have fun, hope ive helped a little,

Yep its about 9 quid an hour, we couldnt have survived on my wage alone. We needed 2 wages coming in and my wife had a good one. Its been the only place so far where the nurses earn more than the building trade (fair i spose).

In Denmark (where we are now) for a builder/painter/chippy you earn 27 quid plus an hour (self employed) Thats 3 times as much! and the food is the same price, (NZ$ for Kroner) houses are far cheaper, (our thatched farm here cost us 50 UK grand, you couldnt buy a flat for that in the uk. rents about same as NZ. (but remember the wage is 3 times more here in denmark)

Youl have some space around you, and the roads free!!!!! but its as hard to make the money go around as it is in the uk. (we go down to 16p in the bank once) hahaha.

Cars are about the same price NZ$ for pound as the UK but when you work out your hourly earning rate they become more expensive than the UK if you were to buy one on the tick.

In fact rental property in NZ shot up alarmingly just after we left and i have an idea a house is about 150 quid a week now to rent. you best check on that one.

If you go into MSN xtra NZ you will find car prices, house prices & rentals etc.

Good luck, if you need any more info dont hesitate to ask
