Default OWNING A BUSINESS

Just a question for anyone who might have the answer out there. Do you have to be a NZ citizen to own a business. In other words, could I buy a business from UK and get someone to run it for me in NZ?

Thanks
Helen

No, you do not have to be a New Zealand citizen to own a business here. For example, most of the banks here are foreign owned.

There are some foreign ownership rules but these normally are focused on iconic land and large businesses. Do a search on Overseas Investment Office for more info.

What sort of business are you interested in?

My husband is self-employed - he works with computers, repairing/building etc. We noticed an internet business for sale in a tourist area and thought it would be an ideal investment if we could get someone to run it until we obtained LTBV.

Believe it was quite common to be able to invest in a business here, and reap the rewards.
