Our chicken's babies are hatching!
This is Maude with 2 of them peeking out. She had 6 eggs and when she shifted I could see more fluffballs under her, just not sure how many yet.
it's so exciting!
I've never done anything like this before - I was so nervous this morning when it all started I had to go out!!!

Re: Our chicken's babies are hatching!
thanks!
I'll tell you it's been such a palaver! We had to make her a separate house for starters! Like we'd done that before! Then everyday for 21 days I go and lift her off to make sure she has food and water and a walk and a poo!
The trauma of it all!!! makes you wonder how they manage in the 'wild'
I'm chuffed to bits.
I hope they survive - that's my next thing to stress over.

By Belenos, I didn't know chucks were such hard work. Thought it was just a matter of giving them somewhere to live & feed & water regularly. Then hey presto, a nice boiled egg with soldiers for breakfast or a new generation of clucky things .
I now realise I'm a thickie townie

well.... tbh I'm not sure how many are there! She had 6 eggs, but I don't know if they've all hatched yet.
At the moment they're just The Dixie Chicks!
But my big chickens all have names!

What are you like?
They're gorgeous though - see, at least you've got no foxes to worry about here - my mum used to lose so many of her chooks to them. :curse:

What a lovely thread.
They are gorgeous. It must be so exciting.
More pictures please. I 'spect they'll grow quite fast and it would be lovely to see them as they turn from fluff balls to teenagers
We are hoping to get a couple of chickens this year if we can. I've always wanted a couple, but we ended up with two ducks instead.
Last year we let our Boo duck sett her nest and ended up with ducklings. We have hundreds of duckling photos. Me and him just couldn't resist spending ages with them. Gawd. Before they hatched , we would nick an egg and hold it up through a torch to see the duckling form. The day I saw my first duckling I made himself come home from work.
One was a bit of a runt which wasn't accepted , so I took to taking her round with me. I called her Fleur. She died a little while back & I really loved her. She was a brave little duck.
Some pics to share.

I'm sorry wee Fleur didn't make it.
I love the middle picture! She had loads!
Ours have been out in their little run sunning themselves.
So sweet.
