other tax costs!!

We are trying to roughly work out the cost of literally moving to nz from the uk.We have now worked out the price of removals for a 20ft container and also how much the flight would cost for us all.
What we would like to know is what are the other costs involved as i believe there are some more tax and levy charges when moving belongings etc.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: other tax costs!!

Here are our costs so far. I believe that if you have a PR visa then you do not pay import tax on household goods etc as long as you have owned and used them for 12 months. Any alcohol imported will have to pay duty....OH has a malt whisky collection but has no receipts to prove he has had it several years so will need to pay duty on it OR sell it OR drink it!!:eek:We have bought a lot of new things but are taking them out of boxes and removing labels for packing. If I am wrong then someone will be along soon to correct me I'm sure:)

EOI £164
Police certs x2 £10 each
photographs £32 (needed 2 lots for each person)
passports ( 2 adults/2 children) £210
medicals 2 adults/2 children £700 ( inc extra £60 for fasting bloods)
x-rays £80 each adult
NZ nursing registration £193 and practice cert £38
postage to NZ £20
photocopying of documents for ITA £15
Getting house ready to sell approx £600
copies of medical notes from GP £200
PR visa £685
courier to NZIS in London £10
migrant levy £460
cost of putting house up for sale £200
Shared use 20ft container £3505
Container insurance £660
Flights £2443
Hotel in Christchurch £240

TOTAL £10755

That's it so far! Hope this helps. This does not include all the new household items and clothes etc we have also bought to bring with us

thanks for that phyl.
Our costs keep on rising and we keep finding them popping up everywhere.
Just one question what is the migrant levy you mentioned?
Sounds like there maybe a lot of whisky drunk over next few weeks then!
thanks again

wow weejie, good record keeping.

Don't really know how much ours was. Once we were on the merrygoround it didn't seem to matter.

All I know is once our stuff got here man were we hit with some unexpected costs. Duty and MAFF fees - and boy did they hurt.

Migrant levy is an extra cost:mad: that NZIS pries from your wallet once you have been approved for visa £115 per person up to a max of £460 ie 4 people or more.

Re: other tax costs!!

We got stuffed good and proper with the MAFF fines because our shipping agent, EMS Hansards, were a complete bunch of tosser's and didn't do hardly anything right and we ended up paying for their mistakes.

I am making it my mission in life to tell as many people about EMS Hansards and how terrible they were and how no-one should ever use them ever again.

Anyone want my ranting's please e-mail me and I'll tell all
