Default Opotiki, B.O.P

Hi all,

I'm looking at the B.O.P, for a place to live and have come across an area called Opotiki. Property here seems quite cheap and I can afford to buy and have no mortgage in this area (always a bonus!!)

So, the question is, is it any good? Cheap property normally means a less than desirable area but it's near the beach and looks great in all the photo's I've seen.

What are the schools in the area? Are they any good, is the shopping, bars and entertainment any good locally?

Does anyone on this site live there or near there?

Are there any similar areas in the B.O.P?

Thanks in advance

Hi Nadine

Basically, everything listed above. What are the best schools in the area, where are the industrial or business district areas, is there a town centre to the area within easy reach for shops, bars and restaurants?

Thanks

Hi Sirplug

I think that the major drawback for Opotiki is that it's a long way from almost anywhere. It is right at the eastern end of the BOP and about 1.5 hours from Taurnaga. It is where the road divides to either go round the Eastern Cape to Gisborne (about 6 hours drive) or across country to Gisborne (about 2.5 hours drive).
It's a very wuiet place and I don't think there is much in the way of work out there. It does have a "World Famous in New Zealand" chip shop though. It's about 30-40 minutes drive from Whakatane.
I have only ever driven/riden through there. The beach is like all of BOP and the Eastern Cape - fantastic!

Hope this helps!

Paul
