Default Opinions on duvets :D

ok I know bit odd for a expat forum but.......

mine and MrF's 13th wedding anniversary this year, yes yes I know I look far to young

but as its textile thought we would treat ourselves to a new duvet inner and duvet set.

Now which are the best duvet inners to get? have seen wool ones, goose feather, duck feather, alpaca wool ones (100% NZ alpaca wool).

want one to do the whole year or is that unrealistic ? If so will just get one for the winter months.

Opinions please

Definitely get feather or down. I use to have a wool one which seemed warm, then mum bought me a feather one (medium weight). Way warmer even though it is quite light. I won't consider anything else for myself. On a really cold night I might use a blanket on top, but I usually get too hot and throw it off half way through the night. I find it too warm for summer though.

I have a wool one that is an all seasons jobbie - that's 2 thinnish inners 200gsm + 300gsm each which have poppers on; so you get three option either stick the two together or seperate depending on the time of year. I think I got it from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Not sure if you are aware of this but Kiwis have the adopted the habit of using a flat sheet under their duvet like the Americans do. Brits follow the European habit of no sheet. That's why you see sheets parcelled up in pairs of fitted and flat sheet in the shops.

My favourite are the French envelope duvet cover which tucks in at the bottom. If anyone sees them here, let me know.

OK, yeah...

...probably the wool then.

FYI you can get nice quilts now that are two parts so when summer comes you can just unbutton the top layer and send him off to sleep on the sofa with the otehr part.

I've just got a new duvet (no such thing as a duvet inner, it's either a duvet or it's something else entirely) from good ole M&S. 5ft, duck feather, 10.5 tog GBP 39.50. Free postage.

Sorry, but I totally get where your hubby is coming from.

If I could get my hands on a chain mail bikini, me and the wife would be play Xena vs Conan this weekend.

I would be Conan...........

obviously........

That could make for an interesting chain mail post box at the bottom of your drive.

Chain Mail bikini ? What's the idea, if you wore it outside in the summer and it heated up he would just throw some steaks on you to barbeque ?

The photoshopped picture of your face on a mannequins body, is, um, surreal. Please don't tell me he dreams of you without arms as well ?

Regarding duvets as this is where the thread started we have our old one from Britain. Not sure what's in it. We have a larger feather filled duvet but it's reserved for very very cold nights.

We've got a woolrest sleeper on our mattress, then a sheet over that. We sleep under another sheet, then the duvet, then the padded blanket/comforter/quilt that I purchased from Briscoes a few weeks ago. I don't like just sleeping under the duvet, to me it's just not right. If we stay in a hotel and it's just the duvet on the bed then fair enough, but I couldn't live like that. Just personal taste.
