How easy is it to open an account from UK and can anyone recommend which bank to use? Been researching on net today and I can see it is possible, but wondered who found it easy or difficult, if anyone recommends one bank over the rest / which are the best banks to use?

Kiwibank. Owned by the Government, (and currently pissing off all the Aussie banks with their serries of ad's). It like Girobank used to be. Otherwise all the others are more or less the same.

Dead easy to open an account, all we did to open a Kiwi account was go online and email them, we had to fill out an application form which they sent us and we submitted a copy of our passports and proof of address and that was that, when we landed we just popped into a branch and varified our address and who we were. We started to send money over to our account before we arrived here, so it was waiting for us to spend when we got here.
