Default One week and counting!

So this time next Wednesday I will be on my way! Just wondering if there are any must get items to stick in my case before I leave?

Quality clothing, kids clothes. If you can find good clothing here it costs a bomb, same goes for furniture, Electrical goods are similar prices but seem more on kiwi wages. If you're into diy or work in construction (as I do) be prepared for a shock. Plumbing and electrical materials are astronomical as is paint. Paint is my fave moan as not only is it ridiculously expensive it is rubbish, same goes for curtains, wallpaper, etc etc. Also be aware, if you're planning to buy a house the estate agents here are all self employed and work on commission only. Take what they say with a pinch of salt and be prepared for all manner of sob stories i.e. 'they're desperate to sell as little Johnny needs a heart operation'. (I've actually encountered this). Also if you buy and want to sell the commission rate is historically 4% !! Although this is starting to change. So my advice is, choose carefully. The choice here in pretty much everything is limited, as is the quality. I know this may sound negative but it's what I've found over the 8 years I've been here.

Climate
Scenery
Space

Already got sunglasses sorted (mate works at polaroid and got last years stock for £1 each )

Hayfever never really bothers me but might get some antihistamine anyway.

I reacted badly to some of the fly bites when over there on our fact finding trip but had adjusted by week three. I did take some antihistamines in the first week though as my left arm had swollen quite dramatically.
