New Zealand winter can make us poor folk living in rentals without insulation, heat pumps et al somewhat primal.

Woman: electric blanket, hot water bottle, wheat bag, fluffy warm socks, flannel pyjamas etc...

Man: Ugh, me cold. Grab woman.

It is the first of June and forecast to reach 20 deg here in ChCh today. Boy is it going to be a shock when the big southerly storms roll in...

Get a dehumidifier. It's the damp that makes it feel so cold. You'll be amazed at the difference - and no more crying windows either. The Warehouse sell them - and they're not expensive to run either.

We're up here too..... its still pretty mild during the daytime... I pop the heater on for an hour in the mornings too. When I see the temps on the forecast of other places in NZ I'm pretty glad I'm up here......hate being cold..... brrrrrr!!

Are you serious? The Hawkes bay have had about 5 frosts so far- imagine if you were back in the UK, It's a damn sight more miserable in december there! (december being the equivalent of June here). The whole of last week we've had beautiful blue skies and the temp has made it into the 20's!!!

Just think, it's summer in the Uk now, and for the past 2 weeks it's done nothing there but rain.

Oh I know Im a big nesh pants, but the house is 1000000 years old, has no carpets, insultation etc.. Its generally warmer outside than in and despite swearing at it and repeatidly trying to get the thing to stay lit, the gas fire stubonly refuses to play its part in global warming.
Add to that I havent had a UK winter for 5 years, as previously living in Westralia, where I also complained about the winter.... which officially started the day it dropped below 20 degrees for me.

Have started deep and meaningful relationships with a very fine pair of fluffy PJS, floral slippers and a toweling dressing gown.. ALL of which look mighty fine!

I know there is worse to come, but we have had a frozen car roof a few time in the last few weeks...! So its defo getting down in the zero regions.

Here in Wellington - after a lovely sunny day yeterday, it's bloomin' freezing this morning. I'm sure there must of been a frost last night.

I can't decide about the weather today: at the back of the house, it is like a beautiful spring day (9AM): there is a warm breeze and I think the washing will dry no problem. In fact, milder than a spring day as they quite often have a 'bite' to them.
At the front of the house it is more shadowed and I can see grey skies...
I think I will go and sit on the back deck as it seems a nicer day out there! . It doesn't seem like winter at all.
I know a thermometer needs to be read in the shade but at the moment there is no shade on the deck and it is reading 22 degrees - and 19 inside without any heating on so it can't be too bad.
