Off on a motorbike trip tomorrow
Tomorrow we are going on a 5 day bike trip (organised by others) round the south island of NZ, my first big trip motorbike since we've lived here. Neil went on this trip last year, but to be honest our memory is clouded as he arrived back home the day before the BIG earthquake which then dominated our lives for a while.
I am really looking forward to it
but it still seems wierd to me that we have such awesome riding a couple of hours from where we live - when previously I used to ride 5 hours to Dover, get on a ferry, and then do a few hours more, to get the same, in Europe.

Wer'e not really envious......
Our bikes are up for sale at a friends dealership and all our gear is ready for packing. I think Arthurs pass could be a suitable part of your route but try to watch the road as well as the scenery
Oh yes and make sure we get pics by the plenty......

Roughly, Kaikoura, Blenheim, Greymouth, Wanaka, Oamaru, home to ChCh. 
Quite a trek! Not Arthurs Pass, but a few other nice ones.

Sounds brilliant, make sure you post some photos, please! My hubby is a keen biker and is so looking forward to seeing some of NZ on his bike

I attended a scooter rally a couple of week ends ago in Blenheim, great time, great riding, but boy you really have to look out for the motorists. Good sprinkling of Brits at the event and a Northern soul disco in the evening - Champion!

Have a fab time - I am going to some of those places with a friend who is coming over from UK shortly. No bike - car and train (Transcoastal to/from Blenheim).
Watch out for the seals in the car park and on the side of the road in Kaikoura and penguins on the road after dark in Oamaru!
