Err...no, it doesn't. It takes years for visas in some categories to become available. The processing doesn't take anywhere near 'years'.

The President cannot unilaterally change the laws.

Thought he just needs to add whatever he fancies to the end of any bill he's signing.

If you're not getting information from the USCIS website, then it's just someone's opinion. Frankly, that includes the USCIS help line, as USCIS does not operate that line.

But, I think that Obama has more important things to worry about for the near term than immigration.

you sound as if you believe they WANT more hundreds of thousands of immigrants to come into the country. They make it hard and limit numbers for a reason.

I don't see what Obama's presidency will have to do to change immigration. As MsElui rightly says, immigration laws are there for a reason, and I'm fairly sure that the US doesn't need to relax any of them. From what I've learned so far, the US only wants committed individuals that can offer professional services for a recognised trade, substantial investment into a US business, or someone wishing to marry someone with full rights as a US citizen.

I can't see anything discriminatory in there whereby Obama should feel the need to relax such laws. If you believe you fall short for any of the Visa requirements, it means that you must better yourself and not that the immigration laws need to be changed.

Hi:

I don't think so. He is leaving the US Senate. The Senatorial caseworkers have a lot more power and are closer to their Senator. In contrast, USCIS will not be but one part of the multitudes who work under the President and will be quite removed. Also, the President has a much larger constituency than each Senator and the possibility of individual case work doesn't exist.

Also, take a look at it from a "national security" issue -- prompt processing is not necessarily a good thing. CIS people still talk about the disaster of March 11, 2002. And that happened before Dubya screwed up everything else.

Unlikely, a strong core of Obama's support are the extremely low paid and have the most to worry about cheap immigrants/illegals driving their wages down even further and thus would not like to see it easier for more immigrants to compete for their jobs
