Thanks for saying I'd have been a fab mum, I like to think so too but then I'm biased

Just out of curiosity, why do you always need to score points?

The point has been on a few occasions that cinema going is expensive. I'm just pointing out that a one off visit to the cinema is no cheaper in London.

Gently Bentley please folks. We all need a vent sometimes but perhaps not at each other.

But it seems that London might not be so expensive after all as benhila points out which makes Auckland's prices even more ridiculous in my view.
I get your general point. London is a world city and therefore it can be pricey.

What I don't understand is how the comparison you now make wasn't apparent to you before you moved to NZ?

But whilst London is a world city, Auckland is a remote city, New Zealand is a remote country. Remote destinations with low populations tend to have a higher cost of living due to a number of economic factors.

.
I suppose because, like so many things in life, you live & learn .

What many people think they know about the country they choose to move to & how they see their lives there, is quite often not quite how it pans out once actually arrived, living and working. That can be seen through the thousands of posts all around BE.

It's that simple really.

I didn't have a look at cinema prices before moving to Auckland. I expected prices to be about 10% higher (freight cost), not double the prices. A stupid assumption as I now know. I also wasn't aware of the lack of good cultural entertainment as I thought that Auckland provides a high quality of living as some rankings indicate. Auckland also praises itself as a world class city. I thought I would have real city life here! I truly believed that. Instead I ended up in a small town. For us the quality of living has gone down in nearly all areas. Nice beaches don't make up for what we have lost.

I think this thread has kinda outworn its welcome now.

If any one wants a rant (and you are welcome to) please start it off in the sheep dip.

Thanks guys and gals. Thread closed.
