Reliance on foreign students paying huge fees, especially from China and India, is not solely found in NZ.

It happens here in Canada, and I would not be surprised to find it happening in the UK also.

It is also one way in which foreign students can gain permanent residence status and then citizenship in Canada, and again I wouldn't be surprised if that also happened in other countries.

It does apparently help to keep fees low for domestic students, which is often the stated rationale, and provide all the services now being demanded by students.

so whilst auckland is semi up there in the world list the rest are kinda so-so?
That was more or less my point.
No doubt the NZ Universities are fine, but for example the top end of the Russell Group Universities in the UK will score higher.
This is not surprising as the UK Universities have a much larger pool to fish in.
