OMG....I was agreeing with almost all of your post until that bit!
North Shore! EWWWW! That's B*ll Sh't.
Well no, to tell you the truth, clearly North Shore ISN'T Safe. especially ‘no reason for murdering’ It's called "Don't Ask WHY Murder"
My brother even refuses to drive through beaches (Long Bay etc) on North shore - He said he is scared ....
I often feel unsafe walking the streets of Takapuna. now, I wonder why that can be? ...
anyway I personally would not want to live in anywhere JAFAland.... full of asians...
Rodney? ....full of many sheep, ugly cow and dairy farms , . . its a very boring & dull place, and not a place to make a living unless you are a nana .... I don't enjoy visiting there.... "can’t wait to leave"
My parents/brother live in Dairy Flat (After all, what with his daily commute of over 3 hours to downtown Auckland ... What the hell...) no thanks

Yes we love it too. It does depend to a degree upon your circs. and where you live. I cannot imagine its much fun living in a bad part of NZ crime wise. We have much more to do than we did in the UK. No where is ever crowded and while there are many negative sides to life in NZ the positive FAAAAAR outweighs the negative. 4 years on and its still wonderful!!

I think that it depends more on what you want out of where you live, rather than simply where you live.
NZ is not so great if you want theatre, history, sophistication, good service, fashion, city life, and inexpensive holidays/flights. However, if you want nature, views, sea, mountains, hardly any people, small town/cities, and a no-overtime policy at work, then life is good in NZ (unless you live in Auckland!)

Everywhere has history though, it's up to the individual if they see it or not.

I realise "history" can be subjective, but I'm sure that most here would agree that when an historic place is a 2 year old plaque describing an 80 year old event, that doesn't quite illustrate a rich history! Maybe I should say a "visible" history instead?

I'm with MrCFD on the history bit. The one thing NZ doesn't really have is a l-o-n-g history, rich in players and places. Sorry kiwi's new and old but you ain't.
We live in an historic dwelling, (want to buy it)? It has a date plaque on the outside, 1902!!!
Our old house in Wales was as best as we could discover, 1780. Now which would you say is historic?
