NZ is one of the easiest places in the world to register a business
Hi,
NZ is one of the easiest places in the world to register a business. Very little bureaucracy: Take a look at the following links:
http://www.companies.govt.nz/cms/how...ealand-company
http://www.business.govt.nz/
Broadband isn't as good as the UK, but it is OK. Choose Telstra rather than Telecom as Telecom use ADSL.
NZ Companies haven't really taken advantage of the internet yet (probably because of the limited broadband), however, I would view this as an opportunity as the market is wide open and if you are already trading worldwide then you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: Some questions about NZ
Online shopping, I think, is not that important to Kiwis, or Australians for that matter. I still think there is a big mentality of going out to the shops like Harvey Norman etc at the weekends, seeing the products and haggling over them to get a cash discount, or more importantly to get them on no-interest finance.
I don't necessarily think NZ'er are backwards when it comes to the Internet, many have really embraced it, but I just think they prefer a human or physical element to many things in life.

With the advent of mainstream debit cards here there may be scope for the online market to take share from the physical stores.
But then again, who knows?
Starting your own business is pretty easy though compared to the UK and far far easier than France for example!

As the title of the thread states, "registering" your own business is easy. Apply on-line to Companies Register, print off some forms, sign them and fax them back and away you go. Assuming that is that you want or need a Limited company. Actual physical and practical day to day running of a company are no easier or harder than anywhere else IMHO. You've still got to put in the graft and learn the skills and mind set. There is a lot of help here for new businesses from the IRD and Chamber of Commerce, really useful advice and mentoring that I would recommend to anyone.

Yep. I think the debit cards will help. Scared to use my credit cards. I get a bit carried away

you're right there's definitely no short cuts to putting in the hard graft. Still it can be worth it if it means you get to choose where and when you work. Although you inevitably work more hours when you are self employed at least you can fit them around the kids.
I was also impressed with the fact that the IRD lady came out to visit me at home in Kapiti to give me advice on starting up my business and she was so helpful. Also, when you have been in business a year then you can a free business mentor. Amazing service!
