Well. What can any of us think or say , truth be known. What a rotten day for the South Island as Boopy says.
My heart goes out to those that have lost loved ones over the past 24 hours. There is never a good or right time to lose a person you love, but to do so in such circumstances is just simply awful .

Yes . I know it happens the world over and all the time for oh so many rotten reasons one way or another but today, this day, it happened here.

No reports of deaths in ChCh - very fortunate as they are contrasting quake with Haiti one. 2 injured by falling masonry/glass (I think a chimney fell on an older man) and only one still in ICU.

Chimneys are a bloody hazard at that's the main damage in many places but it also causes further havoc taking out the roof and awnings etc. Our place has them all bricked up so we don't evne have the benefit of their warmth yet they managed to throw bricks down through the ceiling of the upstairs flat, down the stairs and out THROUGH the front door into the back garden!

Very tragic, especially as his Father died from Cancer back in 2004.... he was my best mate here in Aus.

Feel very sorry for the family members that are left.

Very sad day here in Coburg....

Hearts go out to the rest of the people as well.

Very sorry to hear that mate. Glenn was only 18.....

My FILs mate, chap called John Sullivan, was first on the scene, he took one look and realised no-one could have survived.
