Nick Smith

I actually like and respect him more now he's made mistakes and offered to fall on his sword. Even as an opposition voter I hope we see him back very soon .

Everyone knows that black cats catch more mice than white cats. Because they look like ninjas.

As for Nick Smith, looks vaguely familiar, but until today never really paid much attention to him.

All the news I've seen has been Marmite related.

I can't think why some people think NZ is a bit backwards!

Nope, can't think why anyone would even suggest such a thing.

Apparently we're really going up in the world and will be getting some double-decker buses soon.

That's assuming they meet the national standards for weight, height and width of the buses.

felt sad watching Nick Smith. We all make mistakes and it's hard watching someone fall over. He'll be back, a bit older and wiser. It was an error of judgement but who can say they never made one of those.

This from a sandal wearing greenie. Must be going soft. Lack of marmite probably

Seems he does have a bit of previous with similar such mistakes and errors of judgement though.

Well yes. He does have previous . He didn't make a mistake or 'an error of judgement'. He's been around the political arena for decades. He's a career politician . I very much doubt he is a thicko and at his cabinet level would certainly have known a conflict of interest when he saw one. My thought is he felt untouchable & so able to do as he did.

It doesn't pull my heart strings at all that he looked emotional on camera. He wasn't emotional for the nation. He was emotional for himself. Finding himself basically caught out. He is sorry for him .

Do any of us think he is actually remorseful or humbled back into realising that certain rules are in place for a reason ? Nah ! Not me.

He's all sugar candy on the top. Ask him to step in a little to help mediate for someone who is experiencing real difficulties & he'll present a rather different, or should I say - and I'm being kind here - indifferent, Nick Smith to the one I've seen presented to the media in the past few days.

He'll be back though as I rather suspect a damage limitation deal will have been done. They're all in it together after all.

........ and I do take your point in your quote Charismatic. However, the whole bunch of them should remind themselves who they are there for. The whole electorate, not just the chosen few.

Phew.... am out of steam now. Time for tea.

I agree with you Bevs. This scandal with Pullar smacks of cronyism (at best) which is something that National is often accused of.

Pullar also threatened to expose the ACC's "rotten to the core" culture, which makes me wonder how much Smith was mixed up in all that.

I don't know, in Australia Juuuuulia kept an MP even though he went bankrupt and was quite partial to frequenting...dirty little whores. Maybe Peter Mandelson could fill in for Nick Smith to keep his seat warm?

If he went bankrupt because he spent the states money on prozies then that would be one thing, but if you are going to have a pop at politians because the one eye monster got the better of him/them (a few times) then whoa there's a lot in that cart.

Not knowing when to stop is one thing - lying is something else

Personally, I'm glad the lting bar steward has been caught out.
There's a chance ACC may now stay true to it's principles rather being sold off to private insurers. (no, perhaps not).
As for the reason for his downfall....probably got him a legover.
