Newly Registered Nurse - Auckland based needs work

Hi all

Need some help.

My missus has been here since September. She is a registered nurse in England and is finally going to be a registered nurse in NZ within the next 10 days. She has no postgraudate experience.

When she moved out here she got a job in a private nursing home as an acting RN having everything countersigned untill her pin came out over here, she stuck out until Xmas but it became too much, without going into too much detail boss was dodgy as hell and Laura would come home in tears not knowing what to do that is all sorted now. Laura left.

But is now jobless although she is registered with an agency they only find her sporadic work as a HCA and let her know maximum of 3 hours in advance.

We are leaving mid June, does anyone know of any postions as RN on HCA availaible which would take someone on til June?

Without blowing her trumpet she is an amazing worker used to do 25 hours a week as a HCA whilst studying at uni and got a 1st.

Or if anyone knows of any alternative employment for 5.5 months please let us know.

We are central Auckland based and she is willling to travel as far as necessary.

Check this one out, it's for all the health care related jobs in Auckland.

By the way, all the hospitals are jolly good.

Hey Cava Fizz

With the worldwide shortage of medical/nursing staff it may still be worth a go...........after all.............you never know your luck until you tread in it!

Why not try another avenue?

The hospitals are always on the look out for clerical/reception staff and if the other half has medical/nursing experience............she's already ahead of the game!

Give it a bash for a year or so and then review from there-on-in.........

Try the private nursing homes. DHB hospitals generally will only take NZ trained nurses if they have done a post-grad year or worked in private care for a year. You would think in that case that private care would also accept newly qualified nurses from abroad also

What about looking for new grad programmes within the DHB, has she tried ringing HR to discuss getting onto a programme, I noticed on "seek" there are some new grad programmes offerred in the private sector but mainly aged care.....if thats what she enjoys but most DHB`s now offer a good post grad rotation

Hi Cava Fizz

There is a company called Richmond NZ who are looking for health professionals and they will be sending out ads this week. She doesn't need to be registered and it would help her until something else comes along. Good luck

Hi

I do some voluntary work for Huntington's Disease Association and we're after some more nursing staff. Not sure if it's the right line of work for your OH but take a look at the ad on TradeMe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...366478&ed=true

Unfortunately you need to be NZ trained to meet the New grad programme criteria and to have been qualified less than 4 months, otherwise the DHB does not get the MoH funding. Some of the private resthomes (not covered by the MoH new grad programme), may be an option.
