Default new zealand schools

Are the school years in nz 6 months ahead or behind us? We are looking at January 2004 for arrival but will our 14 year old daughter be six months behind the uk syllabus or is nz 6 months ahead? Our other daughter is 4 in september 2003, when will she be eligible for school?
Thanks for any replies.

NZ school year begins late january. they'd probably go by your daughters age & start her off in the 4th form (2nd year at secondary school). they'd probably assess previous exam results & choose the appropriate class level, this assessment may be repeated later after she's begun classes there.
legally, children should begin primary school at age 5.
