Simple question:

What are the main differences between UK and New Zealand Law?

I mean in terms of driving, taxes, drugs, drinking etc. The kind of laws that effect a person on daily basis?

Well this isn't on a daily basis. I travel abroad once a year so it is annual for me. Very strict rules on what you are allowed to bring into the country. E.g. food, agricultural items, etc. Much stricter than the UK.

Can't think of any others offhand.

you must park in the direction of the flow of traffic. .
speed limit is 100km/h, adhere to all speed limits as they do stop and charge
not a law, as far as I'm aware, but any car that is front even if it is by a wheels length has right of way and will drive in to you or run you off the road if you don't give way

you pay tax on every cent you earn.

drugs are mostly illegal everywhere so just say NO

drinking and driving is a fools game so just don't do it, anywhere.

If you are caught doing 60/70 kmh an hour on a 100kmh limit, expect to be pulled over and given a fine

Driving whilst drunk or drugged up to the eyeballs is apparently a crime and we have regular 'booze bus' checkpoint charlies to negotiate going to and from work. However, it seems to be only treated as a minor offence and not taken very seriously.

If caught under the influence you can expect a slapped wrist and can build up heaps of mana with your mates as to who has the biggest dossier of convictions and collection of unpaid fines. New Zealand is one of very few countries that recycles its repeat offenders and allows them to return into the community to continue driving.

From what i read on govt website cyclists have to wear helmets or its a fine.

That's right. It's a moot point whether skateboarders, scooter riders and roller skaters should have to wear crash helmets too.

Skateboarders skate along the road as they are banned from the pavement.

I wish smokers were banned from the pavement too !

It's very rare to see someone riding their pushbike on the pavement. Although the cycle lanes are on the road and they are two way ! :blink:

You can undertake someone to their left when driving, it's not illegal :frown:

I'd check the road code on that one. I thought that was only permitted if the vehicle in the right hand lane was turning right or obstructed. Clearly nobody in Chch adheres to that one.
