Big issues down there.

Red zone people have a good deal if you ask me, they should grab it.

But it sounds like there is going to be serious problems getting insurance in some areas - the council cant get any, and homeowners in marginal areas may struggle. Whose going to buy a repaired building in a marginal area where you cant get insurance?

Who is going to insure buildings in the CBD? They are all gonna have to go.

And then there is going to be potential problems with prices of sections - somehow they need to keep these affordable .

That is a multiple billion dollar question, someone of course will insure them but the premiums will simply be increased to counteract the risk.

The increase in insurance premiums is far wider reaching than Christchurch and it will effect us all in some way; almost certainly every business south of Auckland can expect to be seeing major hikes.
