New Zealand could be facing skills shortage
This could be good news for tradespeople overseas who are thinking about migrating to New Zealand.
Oz brain drain changes.
Oz brain drain changes.
The face of the exodus to Australia is changing as skilled trade workers in their 20s replace young, well-educated Kiwis flocking to Australia.
Ten years ago, New Zealand was hit by a brain drain; now young tradespeople are chasing jobs and larger pay packets in Australia in a migration dubbed the "trades drain".
And academics have warned that if the loss of trained workers and qualified professionals - who are still leaving in their thousands - continues, the country's economy will suffer.
In one year, more than 17,600 people aged between 20 and 29 moved to Australia.
Most were in the "technicians and trades workers" and "professionals" categories.

It's a worry, but otoh, NZ is still the land of opportunity if you're in the right career and you're game.

If it's shown there is a trades skills shortage then those trades will once again appear on the shortages lists. This will be good news for all those tradies looking to move from their home country to NZ & who haven't been able to do so.

I know some nurses who are looking at 3 month contracts in OZ paying $75 an hour.
How can you turn that down when your saving for a home or just looking to boost your bank balance
