Default New Zealand in April

Hi all.
We live in Ireland and visiting friends in Tauanga April 2004. We intend staying with them for 2-3 days then using their camper van for 5 days Lake Taupo campsite and then 5 days Rotoura campsite. We hope to visit the glaziers at Mount Cook for 5 days then fly back to Ireland.
Our visit is three fold
1. For holidays
2. To see the amazing scenery and sites in the film Lord of The Rings etc
3. We are thinking of buying a house. We have finances of around 50-60 thousand pounds

Any thoughts on our trips ie do's and dont's please let us know.
Also where should we be looking to buy.
Great board thanks

Let's say you have NZD170000. That would buy you something modest virtually anywhere except AKL but don't think about beachfront! By modest, I mean (typically) timber construction, tin roof, garden maybe 650 sq m, not the best part of town, oldish (25 years?) house, 3 beds. If you don't mind avoiding AKL and Wellington (though you could probably find somewhere smaller/ older for that much money in both those places, you can get somewhere progressively bigger/ better/ newer if you go to the less popular places. Hard to rate places, but in order of getting progressively more for your money (ie AKL is worst) I would rate the towns something like:

AKL/ Nelson/ QT
Wellington
Hamilton
Tauranga
Christchurch
Dunedin
Whakatane/ Napier
Timaru/ Whangarei/ New Plymouth

So in (say) Whangarei, you might find your money gets you brick + tile, newish, good part of town.

Hi try this site for property, it has listings from many agents:
www.open2view.com
you can link to most of the agent's individual sites from there too.
