New UK - NZ departure Tax

New UK - NZ departure Tax
I have just read in the NZ Hearld that the British government has introduced a new departure tax which will affect long haul flights by upto $355 per person.
We are flying out in 3 weeks and tickets were booked a couple of months ago, does this mean we will have to pay more at the airport?

Travellers leaving UK hit hard in the pocket
Kiwis flying out of the United Kingdom face hefty fare increases after an increase in British departure taxes that could cost up to $355.
The tax - designed to offset the effects of pollution created by the aviation industry - is being imposed on passengers according to flight distance bands. The further you fly, the more you pay.
Air Passenger Duty rose by up to 55 per cent this month and is the second rise in the last year.
The new rates are applied to all flights leaving the UK.
Premium tickets to New Zealand face taxes of up to $355 while economy class travellers will be charged half that amount.

Re: New UK - NZ departure Tax
Not sure, but I think it may depend on where/how you bought your tickets and the guarantees the vendor made on taxes and other charges at the time.
It comes into effect next Monday and your flights are likely to be band D, which means that if you're going by economy class it increases from 55 pounds to 85 pounds, which is only thirty pounds more for each ticket.

That is what everyone will do. The Uk will shrivel up even more possibly as a result of this draconian tax rise and airports in UK will surely see a huge down turn in revenue. Well done GB plc. Why not shoot yerself in the foot agin? Twats.

Thanks for the replies, we booked online via Emirates directly using the ANZ emigrant promo code. I have emailed them asking if we have to pay an additional £120 for the 4 of us.
Again another TAX that is being raised under 'Environmental banner' that will certainly not be used for any any environmental purposes.
On the positive front we are Emigrating 3 weeks tomorrow

Other European countries are doing the same, or are about to so Britain isn't alone in this.
If it's successful I bet it won't be long before New Zealand and Australia follow suit.

I read that with the increase in tax it will be cheaper for someone who has an internal flight in the UK as the first leg of an long haul flight to make that first flight to, say, Amsterdam or Frankfurt and then get the international flight from there.

Of course industry would be way ahead if we counted the true cost of our wasteful consumerist lifestyle but that all happens in China rather than our back yard. We really must look like massive ignorant hypocrites to anyone outside the west looking in on our indulgent overconsumption.

To me you have to be simple minded for an overcrowded island to make flying out more expensive....... ought to be for more trying to fly in.....

Agreed a tax on arrivals may be more appropriate.
Emirates have confirmed that as we booked in august these additional tax charges do not apply to us.

From what I have been told if you have paid in full there will be no increase. However if you have only paid a deposit then your fare will rise with the tax increase.
