New technology things that are good...
...I got a BOXEE box from Amazon.com and can now watch UK TV shows (BBC, Channel 4, DW TV etc.) on t' telly with a cup of tea. Bit clunky but I like it a lot and this wireless internet TV is going to be the future of TV, even SKY think so. Also can play USB things like .avi and .mkv. Money well spent IMO.
Also BBC have launched BBC Future:
This looks very promising and good .
That all the good technology things for now unless I think of more.

BBC Worldwide today announced the launch of BBC Future, the latest BBC.com section. Informative and entertaining, BBC Future presents readers with an inspiring, forward-thinking and global array of content – going beyond reporting to delve deep into the personal and societal implications of topical developments in science, technology, health and environment.

The wheel. I don't know what I'd do without it

Won't it just eat a regular NZ broadband data cap up in days?

Re: New technology things that are good...
I always bust my 30gb monthly usage well before the month end as I download loads of UK TV due to NZ TV being terrible. I refuse to pay over the odds for SKY and as I did in the UK I refuse to give Murdock a penny, ashame there's no alternative to SKY.
How much are these devices? Do they have internal storage? Where does the content come from?
I can get some Internet TV through my Sony TV but there's nothing worth watching.

Me too. I just have my desktop wired into the main TV and surround sound. I then connect to BBC Iplayer or any other UK internet player, using a proxy server in the UK......is the Boxee any different? As Col said, does it have an IP blocker or similar built in?? Could be of interest for the bedroom TV....more info needed!!

There are many, google it and see what comes back. If you want a quality connection, then a subscribed service is the only way to go.....unless you have someone in the UK who will let you link up to their PC, as a proxy server.....

It does have a proxy thing that you could use for illicit iPlayer activities, hypothetically...if it weren't illegal and stuff .

Re: New technology things that are good...
All the US TV stations have catchup shows available so it's great for that (although I actually download most of the shows I like through torrents anyway). Main reason I have it it is for the music subscription services like Rhapsody or Spotify.
Works with iPlayer too, and is watchable, although if you download rather than stream, you only need the VPN to establish the download, after that you can remove the VPN and download at higher speeds.
I bought a second wireless router too, which I will permanently establish a US/UK VPN on and then I will have two wireless networks at home, one US or UK based and that I can use for TV's, PS3 etc to stream content from. Haven't got round to doing that yet though.

I've just been looking into it, I've figured out for a small monthly fee to sign up to a proxy server (to bypass UK only rules) you can watch any content on BBC iPlayer through a Nintendo Wii on your TV. So if like me you've got a Wii that might be a cheaper version.
It's 5 euros for a 10 day trail from:

I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Can you use a Humax box to decode your tv from the sat, same one that transmits sky?

Re: New technology things that are good...
I've managed to do it.
I'm watching BBC iPlayer on my TV using my Nintendo Wii and a proxy server.
God bless the Beeb.
