Default New to Rangiora

Hi everyone

My partner and I (and my two nutty labradors) have just moved to Rangiora from Sumner - we moved over from the UK in September this year (yes i know a little crazy after the quakes) and although my husband started worked intially and has made a few friends i have found it very difficult and really missed my life and friends in the UK. I spent the first few months with a lot of time to myself -I've met a few people since starting my job in February but not really anyone around my own age who i could socialise with - I'm 32 and my husband is 35 - just wondering if anyone in the Rangiora area might fancy meeting up for a coffee and a chat, meal, walk with the dogs, anything really? Not meaning to sound desperate but we really need to start doing stuff to meet people!

Hi G,
There are a lovely couple not far from you, Neil and Jan, based in Mandeville. They are dog nuts, just got themselves a long haired GSD pup, Emma, 14 weeks old. Neil and Jan are away this week on a motorcycle tour, around Nelson, Marlborough. PM either me or Neil and Jan, they post regularly. Another couple are Chippy64, they contribute regularly to Expats. Persephone is in ChCh as well.
I have a retriever and a spaniel, got to ChCh late last august.
look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Georgina,
forgot to welcome you to the forum!
I've just realised that you only have one post, to date. I think you need a minimum of five posts to generate a private message.
Bev's is a moderator looking after us Kiwi expats, she knows Neil and Jan well and may know how to help you make contact. Alternatively, find one of Neil and Jan's posts and reply to that.

Jan n Neil . Smashing couple & there does seem to be a great bunch of expats down ChCh way.

It's possible to send an email to someone via BE. It will reach the user on the email they registered on BE with. I'll bung over a PM on your behalf.

Welcome to BE . Stick around and happy posting to this cosy wee forum.

Hi georie10 and welcome to the forum.

Don't be shy, have a good read and get stuck in.

I see that this post has got a few people in the same area talking.

Enjoy B.E.

Hi SandyD, welcome to you also.

Hopefully you'll all meet up and enjoy some British humour.

Welcome to Rangiora! As I said in the other post, quiz night in Montieths is highly recommended but it won't be back on until the Autumn. Good dog walking area at the north end of West Belt, turn left onto River Road and park up by the stop bank then follow the tracks by the river. Keep to this side of the river to avoid the bullet-ridden burnt out cars with dead bodies inside!

Hi Georgina

It's great to read your post. My husband and I are currently hoping to relocate to ChCh with our three kids and dachshund! We haven't told anyone our plans yet and are concerned about their reactions. I've been looking at property in Rangiora but my husband is keen to live closer to the city so he doesn't have too much of a drive to work.

What reactions did you get when you moved?

Hope you've managed to set up some meets!

Xx

My boyfriend and I are in Rangiora too....would love to meet some or all of you above posters! We are thinking of going to pub quiz at Monteiths this week.....anyone in? We will need all the help we can get! Would be up for meeting for a coffee or a beer too: we are 31, no dog yet but we regularly borrow one
Georgie I know exactly how you feel! We love it here but miss having friends around.
