New property
Well my husband has now moved in to our rented property. He is trying to get it nice and homely in the best way he can until our furniture arrives. We are coming from Whitstable in Kent and our rented accommodation is in Palmerston North. Xx

Re: New property
Advise him to try The Warehouse for some tidy little things, they are all over and usually well priced.
Some fond memories of Whitstable and the quaint main street before moving out to Birchington-on-Sea eventually.

Re: New property
Good luck with it all. We came from Surrey to NZ in 2011.
We live in Whanganui, about 75kms from Palmy, that's about fifty miles.
There's a shopping centre in Palmerston North called, 'The Plaza' that's where Farmers, a department store is. That's also where Countdown supermarket is. The Plaza is near, 'The Square.' Which is a public open space central to Palmerston North Central Business District.
The Warehouse is on Church Street, up the far end of Church Street as I think of it, i.e. heading away from, 'The Square'. There's a budget supermarket called PakNSave in Palmerston North, but I can't remember which street it is on. Briscoes is a good shop for kitchen utensils etc, glassware, china, sheets, blankets, towels etc etc. Their sales are really good and come round about every three weeks. So regular in fact, some say don't ever buy anything full price in Briscoes ! It's located on Cuba Street, up the busy end as I think of it, near the junction with Rangitikei Street.
There's another branch of Countdown Supermarket further down Rangitikei Street, heading away from the square. Rangitikei Street is a busy arterial road (well, about as arterial as Palmerston North gets) with many retail outlets and car dealerships on it. Noel Leeming is a popular electrical goods retailer which can be found on Rangitkei Street.
Harvey Norman is good for furniture and electrical goods. 'Big Save Furniture' and 'Smiths City' are popular furniture shops. Smiths City is on Princess Street. 'Dick Smith' is an electrical goods retailer, I don't shop there after falling out with them over a mobile phone.
If you're a fan of charity shops or 'ops shops' as they are known in New Zealand, 'ops' being short for opportunity, then there's the Salvation Army ops shop on Church Street. It's huge and great for bargain hunting. There's a couple of big ops shops on Rangitikei Street too. Other ops shops are available.
There's more car dealerships on Tremaine Avenue. Palmy Airport is signposted from the top of Tremaine Avenue. Palmerston North Hospital is on Ruahine Street.
Shops not in, 'The Plaza' in Palmerston North are around the central square, known as, 'The Square'. Nice coffee shops, sandwich shops, cafés & a sushi bar are around The Square along with other shops too. I go to, 'Jolt' for coffee when I'm in Palmerston North.
I could meet you there for coffee if you would like to.
