really do need to sort out an emergency plan now that we moved further North and husband works in CBD. Luckily he knows a few people who also live close to us so the little chats we have had have evolved around them meeting up and heading back, if they can, together just need to formalise a full plan

Definitely worth doing given the chaos in Chch following our fun and games. Bear in mind that phones, including mobile phones, may well be out of action as well and contacting others could be impossible.

I count myself lucky to not have been near the centre at the time

we do realise that you should not Call on a phone but try to text as its lighter load and you just have to wait to see if you get a response and hope any media sites you can update are still functioning.

We found that texts weren't going through either. Very frustrating as no one knew whether it meant communication blackout or worse

Yep, sure would be interested if government services have a contingency plan to continue operation if Wellington had an earthquake.

The most important question is obviously still which drinks to include in your emergency box and if or how long a human could survive on spam and peanut butter.
