Yes AEMO is the employer that most closely resembles the company I was working for in NZ and I have already applied for two of current vacancies in Brisbane but still waiting for a reply from the AEMO recruitment team. They seem to take ages.
I'm also looking at Powerlink and Energy Queensland.

Default The ongoing adventures of the Allen family!!!

Hey peoples,

Didn't get any of the jobs - same old outcome, either not taking my application any further or I've been unsuccessful because I didn't score enough in the interview and I need to pay more focus to answering the questions relating to the core focus of the company, its policies and principles.....WHAAAAAAT!!! Absolute rubbish.
I was the ideal candidate for the last two jobs that I interviewed for due to my skills and experience, however they opted to employ someone that doesn't fit the role from a technical point of view albeit they're better at making stuff up when answering corporate questions that nobody but management cares about, and that was from the interviewing manager.
Was pretty disappointed that week and after lots of discussions about money and bills and opportunities, we decided that it was time for me to start earning some cash, but doing something that isn't gonna be too stressful, or long hours, or shifts etc.

Long story short, I invested in the purchase of a "2 tonne" commercial van and some other equipment, set myself up as a sole trader and after some talks with several Brisbane based logistics & transportation companies I've landed a contract to work as an Owner Driver / Contract Courier / Delivery Partner for them. I though having a complete break from the electrical engineering industry and trying something completely different was the way to go.
I provide the tools to carry out the work and the company I'm contracted to provides the work.
The contract is for point-to-point pick up and delivery, so I receive work to pick up the goods directly then deliver all over Brisbane City and Brisbane Metro areas. I've been doing the job around a week and a half now and have delivered all manner of things in bulk - steel, cable, pallets of dog food, trombone cases, new office chairs, embroidered clothing, vehicle parts, alloy wheels, airport lost luggage, medical equipment and drugs - you name it, I've done it
But the best bit.....I LOVE IT!!
I work Mon-Fri around 8-10hrs per day and I'm out and about in the van throughout. I do around 10-12 jobs which works out around 300-400kms per day and it is a very active role - no sitting on my arse for a 12hr shift with this one. I'm also taking full advantage of the Brisbane climate with the radio on, arm out the window and a proper white van man tan. Perfect pre-retirement, brand new challenge type of job that I was looking for
From a pay point of view, the salary is looking likely to be the same as I earned as an electrical engineer but with a view to me having the ability to tailor how much I earn by altering the hours I want to put in plus there's always the option to work over the weekend as there's absolutely tonnes of delivery work on offer every day.
The only difference with this role is I'm classed as a sub-contractor so the pay goes to my business and from there I have to consider expenses, tax, GST and Super payments of my own which is all very confusing so have enlisted an accountant and tax specialist to sort all that for me as I go along.

Mrs did also land a job at the local GP's as a practise nurse and she also started last week 3 days / week part time so everything is starting to slot in to place now.

We've also booked flights for a 3 week trip back to England from mid December to early Jan 2023 so we can have a Christmas and New Year with family after being absent there for the past 10 years.
