Despite losing over 10‰ of my income/savings due to the exchange rate slump I would still have voted for Brexit due to the democratic deficit in the EU and the ongoing contempt for the views of the populace.

We don't know what will happen following Brexit - chances are the few jobs lost will be replaced with other jobs. Those who voted to exit cited loss of jobs to migrants as a factor, so it was already an issue. While the EEC trade deals might have improved things in the UK, the benefits of EU sovereignty is less clear.

Let's see what deals are negotiated. 64 million is a pretty big market to ignore, so I doubt that the Brits will be cast out. Also, the unknown factor is what will the Italians and Spanish do. Interesting times.

Notice the government are going to increase the seasonal workers visas which will keep a cap on wage growth for low skill employment.

kiwi society died many years ago and was replaced with postcode envy and greed.
Any new houses that are built will be snapped by the only people who can afford them, property investors.

Most kiwis do care. The demand on services affects their access to schools for their children, healthcare and housing. Their children and grandchildren cannot afford to buy a house in Auckland. The kiwis I know are very worried about the current situation but feel powerless to do anything about it. Many of them are lefties who never dreamed that Labour would turn sharp right. This is what led to Trump getting in - a population that feels powerless. Young people blame greedy baby boomers, but they are being manipulated to blame their parents and grandparents in a cynical divide-and-rule propaganda from the powerful elite who benefit. It's not just a NZ thing, it's a result of globalisation of poverty.

Totally agree. Labour have a lot to answer for.

They became totally bewitched by neoliberal politics and still don't see the trap they fell into.
Hence, the right have won, and it's why poverty is so common now as opposed to when I first arrived on these shores.
