We used Crown, door to door with the same company and had a great service from them. Do a search, as there have been loads of threads about shipping companys - some companys, such as PSS use a different company in New Zealand, which doesn't always work out! Good luck

We used Fox and NZ van lines.............

At both ends everything seemed to be going very well but somewhere in between our stuff leaving our UK house and arriving at our NZ house plenty got damaged.

This morning we've totted up the damage against the insured value of each item on the inventory and without taking sets into consideration (for which we have extra cover) the insurance company is looking at £16000 of our property being damaged in some way.

We used Crown. It took 6 weeks from them coming to pack our stuff to it arriving in Wellington - in fact it got there the same day as us. It then took a week or so to clear customs in which time we found our rental. We took delivery of our good before the MAF inspection which was carried out in the garage with no problems. We paid one fee to Crown and insured the contents with Letton Percival. There was damage to 2 very minor items which we were not bothered about. Crown were great and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Ditto - we also used Crown. Excellent packing / unpacking crew. Only a couple of items damaged and this was covered by our insurance. Crown even kept our stuff for an extra week (no charge) while we waited for our rental to become free. MAF visited us at our new home and even that was very straight forward.

Bizarre packing with our stuff.......

Some of my hard plastic bike racing kit boxes were double wrapped while our PC, piano and plasma had one layer of bubble wrap on them......

We were horified when the piano came off the NZ van lines truck and its no surprise it got damaged.

Our desktop PC has a big dent in the side of it as it was just placed in a cardboard box with no protection at all bar the card. It no longer starts up and seems knackered........

The PC held about 7 years of family photos and video's on it which i'd thankfully made THREE copies of.....one was on a mass storage device that was in the same box and also won't now start....the other was a portable hard drive i took with us on the plane thank god.

Theres only one item damaged thats sentimental to be honest and thats a fragile glass lamp with has a broken glass stem. All of our paintings and pictures which are one offs and some one off oak furniture has arrived perfectly.

So long as the insurance plays ball then we're not that bothered and having a kettle with a huge dent in it is actually quite funny...........

Would i recommend Fox/NZVL.....er no maybe not

Porn collection, huh? No problem that I am aware of. I can't imagine that MAF would be the least interested in your selection of DVDs. They seem to be more keen on bio-security related items. Images of naked people getting jiggy are not as high a priority as dirty boots or weird seeds.

Not much porn i'm afraid, mostly just run of the mill films, but as I've spent ages building up the collection, plus of course the MP3's I didn't want to leave them all behind and start again. But yes there will be porn there too

Also whats the deal with bringing brand new items (eg dishwasher, washing machine etc), do you have to pay the tax on these, or could I just unwrap them and claim I had had them for ages? Sorry, should have started a new thread for this really.

We decided against bringing OH's car in the end but did get the companys to quote with/without vehicle. We were told that they would crate the car in one end of a 40' container and then pack the rest of the household stuff around it. Would imagine that they could put car, m'bike and 'stuff' all in one container too??!
