Maybe we should have a snow update thread? I've got friends who've been in Ohakune all week, but unable to get on the slopes until Friday due to storms?

I'm trying to get some friends together this week to do the Surf/Snow run. Boogie boarding/surfing here in the morning, (wetsuits obviously) then jump in the car and race over to Mt. Ruapehu to play in the snow at the bottom of the slopes (not skiing, too many kids who can't) in the afternoon. No idea if there's any snow over there accessible without a ski lift?

Need a 4WD or chains to get to the snow, but you can get a bus if you do not have either of these. It looks fabulous up there today blue skies and heaps of snow. You can normally hire a toboggan for $10 or take a plastic bag for free. Have fun
