Naive question about recruiter's fees
How do job recruiters and agencies generally make their money in New Zealand?
After they find you a job:
Do they get a cut of your pay each month?
Or does the employer pay them a one-off fee?
It's probably a very naive question, and I'm sure both ways can occur depending on the field, but I've been struggling to find a straight answer in general.

Re: Naive question about recruiter's fees
From what I beleive the recruiters get a finders fee, then after a contract has been agreed between the company and the new employee the recruiter gets a final one off cut. The recruiter for our company reportedly gets a final fee of 50% of the agreed annual salary !!!

You also may have the scenario whereby a recruiter might find a temporary or fixed term position whereby they pay you and charge the company a p/h rate.
For instance you may get paid $30 p/h, but the company might be charged $45 p/h, not that you'll actually know this detail, even if you asked!!
At the end of that fixed term, you might be offered a permenant contract at which point there could be a deal between the recruitment company and the employer to pay a certain percentage of the salary in fees.
This isn't protected by law as yet New Zealand however, so in theory unscrupulous businesses might just poach the employee on question!!
But then they would lose a recruiter who is obviously capable of finding people who the want to keep on board.
