This is a must have for the UK

Are you a UK resident? If you are not it is illegal to renew your UK driving license. You will be committing fraud...making a false declaration on a government form...don't do it!. You cannot legally use someone else's address to circumvent the law. It's easy enough to get a new one should you ever return to the UK.

That's his thinking anyway. It sounds plausible to me.
If we have to rent a car using our NZ licence/s then so be it. The object of the exercise is to get an interim car to drive.

It's all via email. I can't afford to call them from overseas. Plus if it allows me online when it's linked to both my passport and NI number they could easily have it so I can't do it

HA!
It's not like she was nasty to me or anything. I was just another customer, who happened to be British (although I did assume given what transpired that this had something to do with it).
In fact I've had more anti-British vitriol spewed at me in New Zealand than I ever have in Europe. I forgive them though, some Kiwis get insecure and tribal in sporting surroundings.
It was just the moment she picked up my licence, looked at it, smiled at me (I fell in love for a fleeting moment) and said "Oh, you're from New Zealand". Maybe she had a memorable night with a Kiwi fella
