Moving to Whangarei Sept 09
Hi everyone,
We have finally got our visas and will be arriving in Whangarei early Sept 09. We hope to get permanent residency sometime soon.
We would love to hear from anyone in the area. We are in our early 40s and got married 2 months ago.
Really looking forward to arriving, but bit nervous now too!

HI there, I'm not in Whangarei but about an hour up the road in the BOI.
I come down every so often to go for a wee shop. Also in my early ( very very very very early heehee) 40s. When you arrive if you fancy pm me and if I'm making a trip down we could meet for a coffee there are a few nice cafes.
I think, unbiasedly, you are moving to a lovely part of the country.
Good luck with everything

How lovely. Very many congrats to you newly weds. Have some karma and think about getting an avatar under that user name of yours ( the wee small pictures) . So tempted to be a naughty mod and stick in a couple of icky wicky pinky love hearts
Not long for you both now and you'll be meeting Spring in Whangarei & starting a whole new life.
All the very best to the both of you.

Hi there,
My OH and I live in Waipu which is about half an hour south of Whangarei and have been here just over a year. We absolutely love it. It is a pleasure to live here. Every single person we have met have been really nice, helpful and we have found it easy to fit in with the kiwi life up here. It is fantastic. My OH and I both work in town (whangarei) so if you have any questions please feel free to ask away.
falkirk2 , you must be pretty close to Waipu, where abouts are you.
Slange.

I am moving to Whangarei the end of October 2009 with my hubby, daughter 16 and son 19. We are lucky that we have friends already living in Whangarei. If you would like to meet for coffee when we arrive that would be great. We did a reccy of NZ for six months in 2006/2007 and Whangarei is a good place to settle. There are loads of lovely places to visit within an hours drive.
Good luck with the move. Hope to see you soon.

Hi Tina, That sounds like a lovely idea. Thanks for offering. We hope to be there approx 3rd week Sept. Can you recommend an area to live where there are houses with 4-5 acres, nice countryside and within reasonable commute to Whangarei. Also, can you recommend a removals firm, as we havent booked one yet?

Our friends live in Maunu (approx 10 mins drive from hospital) in a 12 acre plot. We did find it a bit isolated when we stayed with them. You may want to look for something a bit closer to town - would definitely recommend renting before you buy and getting a feel for the area.
We are using Famous Pacific freight company. We are exporting a touring caravan and our personal effects in one container so things are slightly different for us. We are packing everything and transporting goods to the shipping Company in Basildon.
However, I did get quotes from Crown, Anglo Pacific, Robinsons and Britannia. All varied in price but worth having them taking a look because I picked up loads of good advice from each Company regarding what to take, how to clean items etc.
Anything else I can help with please feel free to ask. I have found this forum really helpful in times of stress!!!
