Moving to Queenstown... what to expect?
Hi there!
My boyfriend and I are moving to Queenstown next year (hopefully September 2012). We'll be coming over on a working holiday Visa and will hopefully be living in Queenstown for about 6 months.
We are wanting to rent somewhere during this time but unsure whether to go through an estate agents or whether to try and find a holiday let that will rent out long term to us. Does anyone have any recommendations for estate agents or long-term holiday lets we could look at?
We also wondered if anyone could give us a brief idea of TV / Internet ? electricity bills per month... what should we expect to pay?
Also, any areas in Queenstown you would recommend to live in? Has anyone done a similar thing and have any extra advice? Any information would be so appreciated!
Thank you!

Have a flick through Mountain Scene, plenty of information there and it has a classifieds section.

Always check your change and double check the price tag of everything you buy before handing over any money.

Hi, We lived in Queenstown for 3 yrs back in 2001 and then for a month july just gone.
If you arrive in Sept it will be the ski season so renters will be tight.
If you can get hold of the Lakes weekly bulletin (think its online too!) thats the best for renters from private owners or property agents. If you only want a room or to share a place you might be in luck and it will be cheaper.
To rent somewhere half decent for the two of you (to yourself), you'll be looking at $350 per week upwards. Holiday lets do exist but they can get big bucks spesh that time of year.
Cheaper areas are downtown, fernhill and sunshine bay but all dont get winter sun (very important regards to heating cost) but they are both near town so no taxi fares etc after nights out!!
Frankton, Kelvin heights and Lake hayes estate are more pricey, bit more family type of suburbs but heaps of sun
Queenstown is an expensive place to live but awesome too, if you have any other questions I can answer ask away.
