Default Moving to Porirua / Kapiti Coast

Hello all

Myself & my partner (& dog & car) are probably going to be moving to Porirua / Kapiti coast area in December / January.
Waiting for a response on our visas at the moment, but going to have loads of questions to ask in the next few weeks, hope you can all help.

Cheers

Myself and the kids are awaiting for the PR to come through to get out there asap.

How long has your ITA been in for? Do you have work to go to?

Thanks for the replies.

ITA was submitted 28th of October, I haven't got a job lined up yet but my g/f has.

We're looking at renting in Porirua/Kapiti coast are there any areas that it would be best to avoid?
Also, what is the commute like into Wellington/Lower or Upper Hutt by car & public transport as I'll probably end up working in Wellington or Lower or Upper Hutt.

My husbands already out there, I'm left in UK trying to sell the house and organise everything for the move over, think I got the short end of the stick

Hi there,

It is a 20mins commute by car from Porirua to Upper & Lower Hutt in off peak traffic times. You can avoid the motorway & drive the scenic route over the Haywards (SH58). It's the same time into Wellington City centre again in off peak traffic. Driving into the city during peak traffic (from 7am - 8.30am) can take twice as long at times the traffic is start stop. There is park & ride train stations at Paremata, Plimmerton, Mana & Porirua. The commute is approx 30 mins & can get very busy, with only standing room room from 7am (peak times).
I would avoid East Porirua, Waitangarua & Elsdon. Most other areas are fine & I haven't come across any areas here that have the same amount af crime & problems as some of our towns in UK.
Papakowhai, Aotea, Whitby, Paremata, Camborne, Mana & Plimmerton are the nicer areas in Porirua City.

I live in Paraparaumu and it is a 50 minute commute to Wellington. The trains run every 20-30 minutes and i find it easy, much better than driving. From Porirua it is about 25 mins . I would recommend Paraparaumu but depends what you want, it is quiet here but a nice beach and shopping centre.

Thanks for all the welcomes & the advice re areas to live & commuting. Pararparaumu is looking good to me, close enough to Wellington, beach, golf course, what more could I want...well a job would be good too.
