Moving To New Zealand - Jobs, Guidance, Help Needed
Hi,
My first ever post :) Me and my partner are going through the application stage (so very early stages) to see our options of moving to NZ, we will probably be looking at moving over on a 1 years working visa, rent our home in the UK to make sure we enjoy our time in NZ before selling up and moving straight over, we have a 1 1/2-2 year plan to move so have started researching, looking at everything involved etc My line of work in the UK is the fire industry and i'm a fire extinguisher/alarm engineer so will be looking to do this in NZ which comes under Lv3 on the ANZSCO points system, and my partner is currently a receptionist in a vets and would like to continue working within the same industry, has anyone had any experience in these lines of work? Any tips for first time movers abroad? We are looking around the bay of plenty/Tauranga area. Thanks In Advanced Tom |

Google wormalds to begin with, they're big boys NZ wide.
Also try looking for work as an IQP, council's are cracking down on commercial building compliance schedules now and your skills would be directly relevant. https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/...ed-person.aspx some of the bigger engineering consultants will have fire engineering departments. Some agents are good to look for you, id rather look and apply myself. |

Loads of hospitality jobs in NZ, and anyone with fire experience would be well regarded. Given the suicide rates in vets (I don't understand why but apparently it is a "thing"), I am sure your partner would have no issues either Otherwise, the NSW fire brigade in Oz, would welcome you with open arms I am sure Good luck |

To join the NSW Fire Service he would need to qualify alongside all the other prospective firefighters, and just having an alarm engineers background wouldn't help. Even prior service doesn't count for much with so many already waiting to join most of the Fire Services.

Yes indeed. I confused myself
NZ immigration policies can make things a little bit tough if someone does not have what NZ feels it needs. Unless they are young enough for a working holiday visa, they will not be moving to NZ on a work visa. For that it is an NZ immigration approved job offer first. Neither of their current occupations are in shortage here in New Zealand so an employer is going to have to prove there is no NZ resident or citizen that could take up the vacancy or be trained for the vacancy. TimmyChCh has come up with the best suggestion in that the OP contact local council authorities to see if there could be a vacancy. They would be able to employer the overseas person if they are also what is called an 'accredited employer'A very large company like Wormalds may also be prepared to go through the approval in principle process with immigration. The chap won't be picking up a fire fighters job as those are rather hard to come by and one needs the correct NZ status to apply.. Most of the fire service is run be volunteers however there are also retained firefighters. If he had a specialised skill within the service & years of exp to match then that perhaps could have helped somehow, however there is a wait list and someone overseas would fall in behind those already volunteering and those in the assorted other search and rescue services that already have NZ training in place. For any qualified UK firefighters looking in. There is an exchange programme in place for anyone that might be interested. |
