Hi, I suppose it may depend on whether you're now a canadian citizen, if you are then you could try going through the Canadian NZI route. If your not then contact the UKNZI and seek their advice. In a nut shell if you don't start asking questions through immigration you won't know where you stand.

Oh! just one question: Why do you want to move from what is considered by most to be one of the most beautifulist country second to NZ and an extremely difficult one to gain entry to?

There's a poster on this forum that goes by CAN2NZ. This person should be able to help.

Good luck.

Yes, we moved from Canada for the fun. We listed the house, received our visa's, sold the house, quit my job and flew to Christchurch.

NZ is just like Canada, but in a smaller way. I think the biggest plus is that you won't come in from clearing the driveway of snow and be dead two hours later from a heart attack. However, there are no Tim Horton's here or anything like that so you may consider that a good or bad.

We like it here and won't go back. There are only so many places you can go in Canada and have what we have here on the South Island. My only advice to give is that you are not coming for the money, you are coming for the fun. If you remember that, you will be fine. Otherwise, stay where you are, it is a pretty good place to be.

Please let me know where you are and if I can help.

I can tell you that you will apply through the London office, not Ottawa. The time frames are just the same as if applying from the UK. Assuming your EOI is accepted and you will eventually be interviewed, the interview will be over the phone. It is all pretty easy and from start to finish you won't be long getting your blue stickers. But remember, you are coming for the fun. The money is in Canada.

Um.

What is your line of work please? Can you let us know your quals. /degree or trade certificates please. New Zealand has an immediate shortage list and a long term shortage list among other options. Can you let us have a little more detail please.

Are you a Canadian citizen?

The short answer is that Yes, you can apply from Canada.
What you need to ascertain is whether NZ needs your skills.
Let us know.

Hi There!

I'm a Spaniard with permanent residence in Canada, where I'm living now since 2006. The country is very nice and Calgarians are awesome people, lots of jobs, but the weather is not made for me. Skiing is very funny, better than in the Pyrenees, but I miss the beaches, sailing, diving and simply walking around the whole year round.

So I'm considering moving to Auckland. As I'm Spanish citizen with only Canadian permanent residence but not citizenship, can I apply within Canada?
Is it preferable to start the immigration process or is it easy to find some contacts with companies there that could take care of all this (sponsoring, doing the paperwork...)? I work as SAP specialist, and I see there's good demmand there, is that really the case?

Thanks for any information,
jc

Perhaps you should contact the New Zealand High Commission in Ottawa and see what they suggest.
The New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS) is the government agency responsible for establishing immigration policies. The NZIS website provides comprehensive information on visas that you may need to obtain, depending on the reason for your visit to New Zealand.

There is also an NZIS office (Visa Section) within this High Commission. If, after reading the information provided on the NZIS website you require further information on visitor, work or study visas, please contact us between 10.00am - 12noon and 1pm - 3pm, Monday to Friday on phone (613) 238 6097.

You would probably need to start the process yourself. It means you would have to make some contacts and get a company to make you a job offer. If you have the skills, qualifications and experience you may apply for permanent residency or a temporary work permit.

The process is not really that difficult. You just have to be diligent and provide NZIS the documents that they require.

Why not move to Vancouver? Auckland isn't all that warm in winter.

I am currently in Vancouver at the moment I don't want to go into things in to much detail as I run the risk of a heart attack Vancouver is the most over rated city on Earth. How it ever managed to win the Olympic bid is beyond belief the commitee must have been carrying white sticks or taken the biggest bung ever to give it to this hole. Dont get me wrong a city is a city and they all have problems. I am not a city person anyway but Vancouver is overlooking more pressing problems like its poor and homeless which if you ever have the chance to visit the place are everywhere.

We are a family of 4 that moved from Ontario to NZ in May. The visa process only took 4 days from Ottawa. Not a lot going on that week I suppose! I was recruited, but I did all the paperwork myself. My husband is a truss engineer and used a recruitment consultant as well. He had a job before he arrived. The pay is much less than what he was making at home. Neither of us where on the short list but, both had job offers.

We found the cost of living very high. However, I imagine that it is on par with Van. We just weren't used to paying for health care, dental or child care! It all adds up quickly but, we have found our stride. Let us know if we can help.
