Hi & welcome to the most helpful forum in the world!!

I have a job offer with the Bay of Plenty District Health Board (Tauranga Hospital)...we will be moving to NZ just as soon as we sell/rent the house!

I had help from a nursing agency called Tonix...they have been very helpful & didn't cost me anything (always a bonus!)

The wages aren't the best in the world, but once you add on any unsociable hours, on call pay etc, they probably work out about the same as the UK.

Feel free to PM me if you want any more details

Good luck, Cheryl x

Here are a couple of websites you might find of interest
Nursing Council of NZ - http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/
New Zealand Nurses Organisation - http://www.nzno.org.nz/
Ministry of Health - http://www.moh.govt.nz/nursing
Hope this helps - there are a number of District Health Boards in both Islands and all of them have web sites and vacancy boards.
Good luck

Hi Kate's a nurse with 20 odd years experience now..we came 4 years ago and Kate started on around the late $40ks plus shift allowance. Kate now has a mon-frid job in palliative care paying around $65k. Nurses are well paid here in NZ. Our local hospital is a very good one. We are midcentral DBH. Give it a google. Palmy is a university town, pop. C75k. We love it..however I guess the Tauranga area has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more allure..depends what you are after aye?? Good luck and happy new year!!

My wife is a Nurse Manager at Tauranga Hospital, so she may be able to help finding a nursing job.
Drop me a line if you'd like some advice etc.

Hi!

Many thanks for replying!

I am in the very early stages of venturing with the prospects of moving out to new Zealand. Was it very easy to get a job out there? I have been qualified since 1980, am on medical ward at present but have had time out for having the children; am a lapsed midwife aswell. how long did it take you you to get a visa etc?

Good luck with the house selling!

Thanks for the websites - I've been qualified ince 1980 but had a short time out for having children. at present am working on an acute medical ward. i have no idea what the hospitals are like over there or the standard of care is like! Alot of the nurses over here are looking at moving to Australia and New Zealand though at present.

Thanks,
Isabelle

Re: Moving

Hi Isabelle,

the first thing you need to do if you're serious about emigrating is to get your nursing registration...check out the Nursing Council of New Zealand's website...all details of how to apply will be on here. Mine took about 6 weeks to come through.

Because I used an agent, she actually did the job hunting for me, I told her my preferences & she got me an interview for the exact place I wanted to work! The interview was over the phone...I was sat in my pjs with a glass of rose (or 2!) in my hand! I was soooo nervous, but it was nowhere near as awful as I had expected! It went ok though...I got the job! :D

See my signature for the timelines...I haven't received my visa as yet, although it has been approved in principle, so I know it won't be long!
