Move to Christchurch, excitement building!!

Me and my partner are getting closer to our relocation and getting really excited (and stressed) now.

Completion date on our house sale in Aberdeen is the 28th of March and after a few weeks visiting relatives in the UK we intend on booking our flight out of London for the 14th April

We are heading over on WHV's for a start, i know it seems rash to sell a house and only get a WHV, but the market up here is falling fast and we were lucky to get our money back on the house!!! If we do come back to the UK it wont be to Aberdeenshire.
We will see how things go, if we love it as much as we think we will then we will try and move onto a more permanent visa (work to residence scheme).
I am a civil engineer with 10 years experience, I have spoken to a few agencies and I am reasonably confident I will find work in my field in Chch.

We obviously intend on renting property asap, but for the first couple of weeks can anybody recommend any decent holiday let style chalets/apartments?

I'm sure I will be back with more questions in the coming weeks, trawling this site has been a priceless resource so far! Good work guys!!!

Try Top 10 camp sites.
Also Kiwi camp sites (a bit more down market).
You may well find that Motels (loads around Christchurch) are just as cheap as the holiday sites.

Short term rentals and cheaper motels are in demand for our transient work force on the city rebuild, also earthquake repairs makes it necessary for families to move out to short term rentals to allow the builders to complete repairs. Motel stay may be your best option so you can quickly find a suitable longer term rental. The large amount of new builds going on in Canterbury has stabalised rental prices and enlarged the market choice......
