I'll need some new rubber soon... and will definitely be opting for a more durable tyre than my Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas... (3k on rear!)... is it best (like so many other things) to buy a new set and fit them before bringing the bike out?

Where is good to buy rubber? I'm looking on trademe and the prices seem around 50% more than here in the UK

Hey Rick,

Yeah, more expensive here obviously.. If i was you id look on ebay etc. What i did in the uk was buy them from ebay or someone like "Black and round" and just pay for a local tyre shop to fit them.
Not all will do this as they are scared of damaging your rims or they say its not their tyre etc..You'l find someone or just take the bike to a service shop.
Then buy a spare set for when you use them up. Fitting them out here is no problem.

I use Bridgestone 014's,016's or 021's etc on my Z1000. The road surfaces are rough out here and tyres won't even last as long here as at home im guessing.. Tho saying that im sure the roads around Auck are better than where i am.

Neil would probably be the best person to messege as he has a bike here already..Unlike me.

Hope that helps mate.

Hi Rick,
definitely fit new tyres before you come.
Once here, the best option I found was calling Busters in Wales one night when into my third bottle of wine! I was after Bridgestone 020s at the time, and couldn't get them here. Busters sent me two rears and a front and airmailed them. Turned up within seven days.
The exchange rate means buying from UK with a kiwi visa undercut the cost of buying locally by a huge chunk.
I've now got a contact here, so that shouldn't be necessary again, but is well worth bearing in mind.

Hiya guys

Thanks for info!

I'm going to order a set of three tyres (two rears) and fit them before I come over... going for a more durable tyres with much larger water expelling characteristics... which I think is sensible

Cheers.

Right my new rubber is being fitted tomorrow... 4 weeks before my baby get wrapped and put inside a container!

Opted for 023's in the end... good price from a mobile fitter.

Need a mobile fitter... had a puncture at the weekend during a 400mile ride out... not fun!
