We are taking my MIL with us - she is also 65. But she managed to get sponsorship with family already over there. Although it was quite hard as she is not in the best of health, it has been a long road with lots of extra medical bits, quite expensive. Although we were told that if she failed on health issues she might be able to get in on compassionate, because all her family are over there, she is divorced and as we are going over, all her children and grandchildren would be over there, she has no other family. If you go for sponsorship I think you can only do it once you have lived there a while on PR.

Hi Tony, not sure how long she can come for - we did look into the possibility of that if she didn't get in. I thought it would be around 6 months, so you could be right. Best to check with someone who knows!
Where abouts are you going?
Good luck with everything.
Sandi

standard visitors visa is 6 months... i know friends of friends parents who spend 6 months in NZ and 6 months in UK... they've bought property in nz and this suits them... my ma wouldn't have the cash to do that so we've been looking at hte options... (she is also 65).... we're banking on getting PR then in 3 years, once she's visited for a number of extended stays, hoping to sponsor her... follow link to the NZIS london branch page with tips on sponsorship for parents... http://www.immigration.govt.nz/branc...ocessingtimes/

of course, i guess things can change, but that's our current plan for what it's worth
