More jobs gone
Contact energy one of our larger energy providers in NZ is slashing 10% of its work force due to a nationwide slump in energy use. Slow down in use is mainly from the industrial sector, shows that we are on a gradual slow down one imagines?

Thats a shame. I hate hearing about job losses everyday. Most countries seem to be in a bad state, i hope it gets better sooner rather than later

Some reports quote the industrial demand reduction as mainly coming from two big users (smelter and a paper mill), closing. Not good news all round but better than a true nationwide slump if that is the case as the job cuts may be just a one-time adjustment.

There's also increasing awareness of energy efficiency. I know it won't account for a major drop in energy use but as more and more people turn to it, it'll appear to reduce the energy consumption I guess.

So it would seem that eventually, yes, an overall drop in demand may be on it's way.
