Re: More car advice please
Which car dealer is it? Just so I can steer clear of them when I come over (pun intended)

Oh I am very smug indeed. Had been waiting for a phone call from them pressurizing me into the sale again but they must have sold it to some other poor fool over the weekend.
I shan't tell you what I used to be in a former life then not quite estate agent, but in the property business all the same!

Do you get many private car sales in NZ? When I've searched Trade Me & Autotrader it all seems to be dealers. I'm assuming people hang on to their cars for years (which is what I do myself) rather than changing every three years or so.

there are also car lots and regular venues that cater for private sales, such as Ellerslie Racecourse each weekend, plus auctions like Turners who have sales halls nationwide.

Hi
We had our cam belt done recently on our Toyota Prado - it's worth getting done when it's due, wouldn't want the whole engine messed up by it not being done.
As for car dealerships - there are loads trying to sell cars, so if you're not happy with the price, and they won't budge, walk away

Oh Neil - how right you are - they are the scum of the earth as I have had confirmed to me today. I'm still umming and ahhing over this car so thought, lets check out the history - if it was a lease car for most of its life its probably a good buy as has been looking after. I buy a carjam report.....
Dealers have told me its had 2 owners - 1 of which was lease company.
Carjam says..........THREE OWNERS! Lease company 1.5 years, individual for 5.4 years, and another individual for 1.7 years! Oh and the cherry on the cake is there is finance owing on the car that matches the date of the last owners!!!
So the dealer can take their deal and shove it where the sun doesn't shine!
Phew what a lucky escape!!

As soon as I get my visa my brother will be on the lookout for me. He bought a Toyota Ipsum for $5k when he first came over, approx 6 years ago and it's still going strong.

Well my Subaru Legacy for $2000 15 years old car is still plodding along - part of me thinks that I shouldn't get rid of her - but she's quite battered etc and I want a "nice" car to drive. I am treating her to some fresh oil this week though to keep her happy!
